Synopsis of the terrestrial and freshwater gastropod fauna of southern Bahia, Brazil

The terrestrial and freshwater malacofauna of southern Bahia is little known, especially in comparison to the well-studied eastern portion state covered by remnants Atlantic Forest. We present here a synopsis all gastropod species known from central region state, as ‘Centro-Sul Baiano’, focusing on four municipalities: Condeúba, Cordeiros, Mortugaba, Piripá. list herein contains data literature, historical material deposited museum collections, two recent expeditions undertaken region. survey resulted 21 gastropods, with nearly 700 voucher specimens (mostly freshwater) collection Museu de Zoologia da Universidade São Paulo (São Paulo, Brazil). Circa 30% are non-indigenous; previously, only exotic was Melanoides tuberculata (Müller, 1774). family Achatinidae most diverse group number native species, while typically superfamily Orthalicoidea represented species.
